An Afternoon of Australian Flavours

DSC00220A sensational afternoon tea and series of talks was enjoyed at the Friends 'Afternoon of Australian Flavours' on Sunday 19th July in the Kings Park Education Building.

The afternoon tea spread was a special treat, and included:

- Wattleseed scones with native fruit jam

- Emu curry puffs

- Mini pork and kakadu plum sausgae rolls

- Cherry tomatoes with Pepperberry creamcheese and chives


Botanic Terraces Update

Terraces whats going on x webWorks are progressing on the Botanic Terraces project at a fast pace to ensure the project is completed in time for the official launch on 4 October 2015, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Western Australian Botanic Garden on that day. This project is an initiative of the Friends of Kings Park, developed in partnership with Kings Park representatives with support from Lotterywest grants.

2015 Boab Expedition and Opportunity

Congratulations to Dr Tony Scalzo for MP Volunteer Award

We have the great delight to announce that Friends of Kings Park Volunteer Dr. Tony Scalzo has won the Members of Parliament 2012 National Volunteer Award for the Environment in the Curtin Electorate, as well as the Volunteer of the Year.

MP AwardOn Thursday 13 December, the Hon Julie Bishop presented the awards in a ceremony to recognise and celebrate our remarkable volunteers.

Tony has been recognised for his contribution to the environment with 18 years of service to the Friends of Kings Park in the following roles:


New Kings Park Plant Release

Alyogyne 'Blue Heeler' flower Alyogyne cv. ‘Blue Heeler’ is a new release from the dedicated plant breeding program at Kings Park released in partnership with the Australian company Ramm Botanicals. 

‘Blue Heeler’ is a beautiful, prostrate form of Alyogyne that is an ideal size for small gardens or border planting in larger landscapes.  It has striking individual purple flowers on display for many months in spring and summer.  In cultivation it grows to about 30 cm high by a width of about a metre.


Kings Park Education is Growing (Just like our plants!)

ED buildin aaerial resized 2Opening in June 2012 the new eco-friendly Kings Park Education centre will provide an exceptional learning environment set in a beautiful bushland location. Included in the new building is an interactive learning space for up to 70 students, as well as offices for the Kings Park Education team.


New Naturescaper Volunteers

The new Naturescaper volunteer program for Rio Tinto Naturescape in Kings Park is attracting keen interest from both new and existing volunteers.
